Child Protection Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
The CPU is the arm of the Police Service which was formed to specifically address child protection issues. CPU officers will be attached to each Police Division throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
The Authority is poised to assume a central position in relation to the protection of children in Trinidad and Tobago. In order to do this effectively it is essential that the organisation works closely with the Police when dealing with the following issues:
- Sharing information on children who are in situations where they require protection;
- Removal of children from dangerous situations;
- Implementation of a Court Order which has been obtained concerning a child in a situation where public peace has to be preserved ;
- Visiting children and families who live in ‘high risk’ areas.
